Grocery Store Comparison

Today I visited the grocery sections of Walmart, Target, and Publix. Below is my review of them.

WALMART: Going to Walmart, I know the quality may not be the best but the selection is good and this idea shined through. The benefit to Walmart is that you can buy a lot in bulk. As seen in the pictures below, there are bags of fruits and vegetables available for purchase as soon as you walk in the store. I appreciate this layout as it allows for people to have a wide selection while saving on some costs too. The refrigerated section was decent but needed to be restocked more often than it is. The variety is pretty normal, nothing special with all the fruits and vegetables you'd expect to find in a grocery store. If I was looking to cook for a party or was a food shop owner, I would frequent Walmart when looking to buy groceries for the week.

TARGET: This was by far the smallest grocery section of the three, which shouldn't come as a surprise as Target is more of a department store than a grocery store or supermarket. The focus of Target is more on organic and healthier options. This is apparent as their juices and greens fridge are bigger than their fruits display. They offer the ordinary fruits, nothing special. To make it more laughable, there is a giant freezer in the middle for meats which seemed very out of place to me. Overall I would only shop at the Target grocery section if I was already at Target for something else. With Publix literally one hundred steps away in the same plaza, I don't see a draw for Target unless there is a super unique item or they are giving away fruit.

PUBLIX: The standard of all grocery stores and the pride of all Floridians. If you have lived in Florida for more than two weeks, you know what Publix is. The fruit display was clean and shiny like normal. One thing I enjoy about Publix is that it caters to the individual shopper. Unlike Walmart, there is little to no bulk options which leads to higher quality and allows you to inspect what you are buying. The one downside is that the prices are higher than the other two stores, however I believe the quality of the selection and store overall makes it worth. The selection at Publix is also of high variety. For example, I bought Persimmons and Dragonfruit at Publix as I couldn't buy them at the other two stores. The refrigerated juice and vegetable section is also larger than Walmart's and at least twice the size of Target's. The variety and quality at Publix justify the reputation and I believe is the best store out of the three. They even sell herb plants in the grocery section!

Out of the three the highest quality, no bias, was Publix. However, I would like to emphasize that Walmart and Publix (we aren't mentioning Target because its sad selection) are oriented towards different audiences. Walmart caters to those who are looking to buy in bulk and who like to value shop. Publix caters to those who are willing to spend a little extra for quality. I prefer Publix but appreciate and shop at Walmart. In the end the difference in price and quality may lead consumers to choose which option best suits them.
